A little bit about me, Matthew McArthur

Thank you for checking out my website Adventuresque.com. Let me introduce myself, my name is Matthew McArthur. Most people here in Dominican Republic call me “Mateo”. I am an expat that has been living here full time since 2007.

I really didn’t chose Dominican Republic, rather it chose me. I came here for a 3 month contract to teach surfing. The plan was to move on from here and see what else Latin America had in store. Once I arrived to Cabarete on the north coast, I knew it would be home for perhaps a little longer. A year is what I had in mind…

I believe it was John Lennon who said “that life is what happens when you are busy making other plans.” I am a firm believer in this. After about 6 months of my “one year”, I went on a date with a very adventuresque local girl. That concreted me staying on this awesome island. We are now married and have a very adventurous son.

Growing up very involved with Boy Scouts of America and earning my Eagle Scout, I have always had a desire to be outside and go on adventures. Cabarete, known as the “adventure sports capital of the Caribbean,” is a great place for us to call home.

Dominican Republic is such an amazing island. Her people, culture, and nature are something of an adventurer’s dream. After 8 years exploring her mountains, caves, rivers, waterfalls, coral reefs, beaches, cities, and countryside I decided to offer the best of high adventure in an 8 day vacation package. I cannot think of a better way to show this amazing island respect than to bring adventurous vacationers and show off the best of high adventure she has to offer.

These weeks are designed for those that seek adventure. I have taken every step necessary to set up tours, accommodations, and meals. All the guides we use during our adventure excursions are certified, trained, and well equipt in their respected field. I personally guide these adventure vacation weeks. I am a certified Wilderness First Responder as well as a trained canyoneering, kayaking, and caving guide.

This week is not for the faint of heart, nor for those looking for a lot of down time. I have created an action packed itinerary that is for those who have adventurous spirits, a good level of fitness, and who are seeking the most adventure with their time off.

Yours in Adventure,
