10 Ways Adventuring Makes You a Badass

Adventuring may be the best thing for a healthy life and a healthy planet. It’s a bold statement, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

To your health! Here are a few physical health benefits we gain from adventuring

1. Adventuring builds a bulletproof immune system.

The modern society we now live requires that everything be sterilized, sanitized, homogenized, pasteurized, and a whole slew of other “ized” things to keep us healthy. Research is showing that this has backfired a bit. Recently there has been a surge in allergies, asthma, and digestive issues. Getting out there and getting dirty may offer the best method to building a better, healthier, superhero immune system.

2. Adventuring keeps you young… Well, at least your health!

Getting out and being active helps maintain a healthy weight. Doing more adventuring outside helps prevent or manage heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and helps strength your muscles and bones. Boom! Outdoor adventuring-2 staying in and Netflix binging-0

3. Adventuring gives us a sexier hippocampus

The hippocampus is the part of the brain that creates memory and aids in spatial navigation. When we are out adventuring this badass evolutionary feature goes into overdrive causing it grow and retain more memory. When we hit our mid-fifties the hippocampus usually begins to shirk causing memory loss. When it gets worked often it grows and aids to keep us mentally sharp for years to come.

Adventure is not outside man, it’s within. Adventuring benefits that/those voice(s) inside you head.

4. Adventuring, be prepared for the unexpected

How do you react when things don’t go as planned? When we put ourselves into situations that don’t go as planned such as adventure travel, we prepare our everyday life with coping methods for uncertainty. We also prepare ourselves with a “plan B” mentality. Being able to adapt to the situation and perhaps reach an equal or more favorable outcome.

5. Adventuring gives us healthy dose of stress and adrenaline

I recently wrote an article entitled Using your Fear While Outdoor Adventuring. In this article, I stated that fear can be both a lock and key. The lock can prevent us doing something that we would gain and perhaps have a better outlook on life from. The key, being stress can unlock peak emotional states, even makes us better people. When we put ourselves in stressful situations our brain releases adrenaline. This helps us focus on the task at hand, gives us extra strength, and helps that fore mentioned sexier hippocampus.

6. Adventuring builds billionaire confidence

Letting yourself being fully engaged in unfamiliar territory gives us a boost in confidence. Each time we venture further past our comfort zone we increase our levels of confidence. There is a cycle to this type of travel. We call it dream, plan, go, share. Each time to complete this cycle that dream section gets bigger. BUT be warned it becomes a full-blown addiction!

7. Adventuring causes you to reflect, the lost art!

Tim Cahill, the founding editor of Outside Magazine once wrote; “An adventure is never an adventure when it happens. An adventure is simply physical and emotional discomfort recollected in tranquility. Adventures can be re-lived, reflected, and can take us to our “happy place” while sitting in gridlock on our way to the office.

8. Adventuring creates better lives for our children

Remember childhood? That time before technology ruled our every waking hour? I do. I used to come home and go straight outside. I explored, road my bike got in and out of trouble. It was great and I wouldn’t change a single thing about it.

Right now we are in the midst of a global epidemic. The term Nature-Deficit Disorder was coined in Richard Louv’s book, Last Child in the Woods. It basically describes how we have alienated our children from nature. Taken away their time to explore their world. This has in turned extinguished their spark wonder lust. Once that flame goes out it usually does not get reignited.

Another blog post I recently wrote entitled Your Kids want to be outdoors and You Should too! If you have kids read it, and take them out to go on adventures. Their future adult self depends on it!

9. Adventuring is for anyone from 1 to 1000 years old

There is no age limit on adventuring. The spark for adventure goes out with age, but it doesn’t have to. The term “adventuring” conjures up images of scaling Everest or braving the rapids of Zambezi River, but it can also mean camping at your local state park or going for a day hike close to you. As Icarus said, “All limits are self-imposed.” Of course, pack a snack, prepare for the unexpected, and create lasting memories.

10. Adventuring may be the single greatest thing we as individuals can do to save the planet.

Adventurers understand what is at stake as climate change, deforestation, and pollution change our environment. The forest, the rivers, the seas and beaches, are our playground.

We will defend it. We will protect it. We will be a voice for it. We understand the only profit from our environment is the investment in the future.

Well there you have it, The greatest Top 10 list, ever! 10 Ways Adventuring Makes You a Badass! Has Helen Keller put it once “Life either a great or nothing.” So here’s to your adventures, the wind in sails, the adventurer in you! Now go out there and continue your adventuring badassery!
