Canyoneering is an outdoor activity that combines route finding, rappelling, problem solving, swimming, hiking, and cliff jumping. Canyoneering is an amazing time spent in nature. The best canyons are where the bedrock has been cut creating beautiful scalped walls and awesome waterfalls.
Canyoneering is different than other outdoor activities. It has a technical feature; Rappelling!
Rappelling or abseiling, translates from the German word “abseilen”, meaning to go down a rope. Rappelling uses similar harnesses, carabiners, and ropes as rock climbing. The difference is instead of fighting gravity you use it. In the case of canyoneering it can be down waterfalls.
There is are few things that come as close to the thrill of rappelling down a waterfall. Once exception is waterfall or cliff jumping!
Well of course waterfall or cliff jumping is not for everyone. That’s where the problem solving comes into canyoneering. There is always a rappel, a climb down, a hike around, or waterfall slide down instead of a jump.
I cannot say enough about the sport of canyoneering. It takes you into a world that few get the opportunity to visit. You will see things and have experiences that only canyoneering can offer.
